Educator’s Guide

Welcome o the Mapledale Country Club educator’s guide. We invite you to visit our club with your students and enjoy an interdisciplinary experience on our grounds.

This history is important and should be told. Not only is it necessary to keep local history alive, but it’s critical for these types of stories to be shared and remembered. We must value truth and the way our communities have developed over the years. When we don’t tell the truth of our histories, we sustain the status quo of forgetting inconvenient stories that exclude people of color.

The purpose of this guide is to:

  • offer educators resources in order to welcome this story into their curriculum

  • support educators in identifying skill sets to be used when exploring this local history

  • affirm educators’ desire to integrate disciplines while having valuable conversations

As you navigate this guide, you’ll notice that each grade level has its own section with lesson and activity ideas for you to choose from. You can adjust the lessons to fit the needs of your students. We valued interdisciplinary and justice-focused teaching and learning (Germán 2021) while keeping skill-building at the core.
